A properly designed web site will be designed from
two perspectives. It will both look good to the
consumer and do its job to close the sale and
generate revenue and it will look good to the search
engines and will be found by the robots and spiders.
When we design your site, we design it to maximize
its effectiveness in search engines including but
not limited to properly formatted html tags, file
names, title tags, keyword links, robot text files

Social Media and SEO -
SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is a constantly
changing landscape. What worked well a few years ago for
a web site to achieve top search results may actually be
hurting a web site today.
The web is evolving and most recently Google has decided
they want people to dictate internet popularity, not
companies with fancy SEO techniques. So they have been
tweaking their algorithms to put more and more emphasis
on social media and relying on the masses to determine
what properties to serve up to users.
What does this mean? What can we do? What can you do?
What should we do? And what should you do?
What does this mean... first of all, you cannot fight
it. You do not have to like it, but you cannot fight it,
as you will not win. So as always, to be successful, we
must embrace change.
What we at IMS-21 are doing for our clients:
1. We create new accounts for our clients on Facebook,
Twitter, Google+ and more.
2. We make sure a client's presence on other Social
Media sites (YouTube, TripAdvisor, Flickr, Pintrest,
Yelp, Bing, Bing Local, Google Places, VisitMaine.com
and others) are as updated, fresh and display the
property or resort in the best possible light. That
means we are making sure your locations on maps are
accurate, that descriptions are up to date and as crisp
as they can be, that your best most current images are
displayed up front, videos uploaded where available and
more.
3. We have an SEO and Social Media expert in the office
full-time analyzing data and helping us with all the
hours of work it takes to keep up with all of this for
our sites and our clients.
4. We keep all of this Social Media updated on our
clients behalf on all of these various outlets.
5. We add Social Media icons and links on clients web
sites.
Search Engine Submissions
We
have all received emails claiming to submit your
website to 1,500 search engines for just
$19.95/month or some such thing. Do not be fooled
and do not sign up (and if you already have signed
up, cancel).
Submitting your website multiple times does not
improve your chances of ranking highly on the search
engines. Once a search engine knows that your site
exists, it will spider your site on a regular basis.
Submitting your sites multiple time is only a waste
of your time and of search engine resources. Take
that time (or money if you’re using a submission
service) and put it towards other optimization
efforts that will have an effect such as content
creation or link building.
These top three search engines receive over 97% of
all searches. Plus, many of the smaller search
engines receive their results from the larger ones.
Search Engine Percentages of traffic (Dec 2016):
Google - 75%
Bing - 8%
Yahoo Sites - 7%
DuckDuckGo - 2%
Ask.com - 1%
AOL.com - 1%
Baidu - 1%
All Others - less than <.1.37%
Spiderability
The ability for a search engine spider to get
through your website quickly and easily is of a high
degree of importance. The easier you make it for a
spider to crawl your site, and the more relevancy
you can add on the way, the higher your website will
rank.
Paid/Sponsored Search Engines: You
can boost your rankings with pay per click
advertising. Bing/Yahoo and Google offer Pay per
Click.
Link Popularity and Search Engine rankings
Link popularity plays an important role in the
visibility of your Web site with search engines,
particularly with Google. Without other sites
linking to you, you're unlikely to climb to the top
of the search results. In fact, some engines require
at least one or more links coming to your Web site
or they will drop you from their index.
When adding links, we concentrate on related and
important links only. Sheer numbers are no longer
important. What's important is that the more popular
sites on the Web link to your site, as well as
making sure that the links pointing to your site are
relevant to your topic area. Don't make the mistake
of thinking that link popularity isn't important or
necessary. High link popularity combined with some
basic keyword optimization is sometimes all it takes
to achieve top rankings. It's crucial, in many
cases, to the success of an online business.
